Mangrove ecosystems provide essential ecological functions in tropical coastal environments, yet their community structure may be affected by anthropogenic pressures. This study aimed to characterise mangrove species composition, density, and diversity in Siwar Village, Ambalau District, South Buru Regency, Indonesia. A descriptive field survey was conducted using the point-centred quarter method (PCQM). Mangrove individuals were identified and recorded based on their distance from each sampling point, and the community was characterised using species density and the Shannon–Wiener diversity index (H′). Three mangrove species were recorded among 159 individuals: Avicennia alba, Avicennia marina, and Sonneratia ovata. Avicennia alba exhibited the highest reported density (100 individuals ha⁻¹), followed by S. ovata (42 individuals ha⁻¹) and A. marina (17 individuals ha⁻¹). The Shannon–Wiener diversity index was H′ = 0.88, indicating low species diversity. The uneven distribution of individuals among the three species was characterised by the comparatively high representation of A. alba, which accounted for 62.9% of all recorded individuals. These findings provide baseline information on mangrove species composition and diversity in Siwar Village and may support locally appropriate conservation, management, and rehabilitation strategies.
