Plagiarism Policy

KAMBOTI: Jurnal Sosial dan Humaniora is committed to publishing only original works and upholding the highest standards of academic integrity. Plagiarism, in any form, is considered a serious breach of publication ethics and is unacceptable.

Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the act of copying or using ideas, opinions, words, data, results, or works of others and presenting them as one's own without proper acknowledgment. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Direct plagiarism: copying text, word for word, from another source without quotation marks and citation.
  • Paraphrasing plagiarism: rewording another author's text or ideas without proper citation.
  • Self-plagiarism (text recycling): reusing substantial parts of one's own previously published work without citation.
  • Duplicate publication: submitting or publishing the same or substantially similar manuscript in more than one journal.
  • Mosaic plagiarism: combining phrases or ideas from several sources without proper acknowledgment.

Similarity Check

All submitted manuscripts are checked for similarity using iThenticate (Turnitin) plagiarism detection software. The similarity check is carried out at two stages:

  1. Before peer review: upon submission, during the initial editorial screening.
  2. Before publication: on the final revised version of the accepted manuscript.

The editorial board has set the maximum similarity index at 25%, excluding the reference list and quoted materials, with no single source exceeding 5%.

Actions Based on Similarity Results

Similarity Index Action
≤ 25% The manuscript proceeds to the next stage of the editorial process.
26% – 40% The manuscript is returned to the author(s) for revision before it can be processed further.
> 40% The manuscript is rejected.

Plagiarism Detected After Publication

If plagiarism is detected after an article has been published, the journal will investigate the case in accordance with COPE guidelines. If confirmed, the article will be retracted, the author's institution may be notified, and the author(s) may be prohibited from submitting to the journal for a certain period. See our Publication Ethics for the procedures on research misconduct and retractions.

Author Responsibility

Authors are strongly encouraged to check their manuscripts for similarity before submission and to ensure that all sources are properly cited. The use of reference management software and language tools, such as Grammarly, is recommended to improve the quality of the manuscript. By submitting a manuscript, the author(s) declare that the work is original, has not been published previously, and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
