AI Policy

KAMBOTI: Jurnal Sosial dan Humaniora recognizes that generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and similar technologies, are increasingly used in research and writing. To maintain the integrity, transparency, and quality of scholarly publications, the journal adopts the following policy, in line with COPE's position on Authorship and AI Tools.

For Authors

  • AI is not an author. AI tools cannot be listed as an author or co-author, as they cannot take responsibility for the work, approve the final manuscript, or be accountable for its content.
  • Permitted use. Authors may use AI tools to improve language, grammar, readability, or formatting of their manuscript, under human supervision.
  • Prohibited use. AI tools must not be used to generate research data, fabricate or manipulate results, create fictitious references, or produce substantial parts of the manuscript's scientific content (e.g., analysis, interpretation, or conclusions) without critical human contribution.
  • Disclosure. Any use of AI tools beyond basic grammar and spelling checks must be disclosed in the manuscript, in a statement placed before the References section, specifying the tool used and the purpose of its use. Example: "During the preparation of this work, the author(s) used [tool name] to improve language and readability. After using this tool, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take full responsibility for the content of the publication."
  • Responsibility. Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of all content in their manuscript, including any parts produced with the assistance of AI tools.

For Reviewers

  • Reviewers must not upload manuscripts, or any part of them, to generative AI tools, as this may violate the confidentiality of the review process and the authors' rights.
  • Peer review reports must reflect the reviewer's own critical assessment. AI tools may only be used to improve the language of the review report.

For Editors

  • Editors must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and must not upload them to generative AI tools.
  • Editorial decisions must be made by editors based on their own judgment and the reviewers' assessments, not by AI tools.

Violations

Undisclosed or inappropriate use of AI tools will be treated as a breach of publication ethics and handled in accordance with the journal's policy on research misconduct, which may result in rejection of the manuscript or retraction of the published article.
